Nyungwe forest national park is the largest montane forest in East Africa with 13 species of primate. These species include chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori colobus, red colobus monkeys, the rare L’Hoest monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, owl-faced monkeys, silver monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, over 310 bird species (including the Rwenzori Turacos, white-headed wood hoopoe, Great Blue Turaco, red).
Nyungwe's biodiversity is astounding by African standards and is one of the most endemic species-rich areas in the whole of Africa. Nyungwe forest national park is steep slippery and tracking in sometimes is unpredictable.
Get a warm welcome from our driver-guide upon arrival at Kigali International Airport in the morning/afternoon depending on arrival time. Before heading to southwestern Rwanda, you will have a quick briefing about your safari in Nyungwe Forest national park.
En-route, you will have a stopover at Nyanza where you will have a visit to King’s palace or explore the cultural museum in Butare and then have lunch before proceeding to the park while enjoying the beautiful views of tea plantations.

Breakfast will be served very early in the morning and later transfer to Uwinka area for a briefing on the set safety measures to be observed while on chimpanzee trek. After the briefing, you will be allocated to one experienced and knowledgeable park ranger guide who will take you through a trek to see chimpanzees although you will also come across other primates, bird species and floral species.
This will take you about 2-4 hours which also covers the one hour of face to face encounter with chimpanzees, photography and exploring their behaviours Later, you will get back to your safari lodge and enjoy lunch then in the afternoon, you have a canopy walk
You will enter into the forest when it’s dark but you will be able to see primate species such as colobus monkeys, forest birds and later, you will be able to see the chimpanzees when it’s already day time.
Return to your lodge after the tracking for lunch and in the afternoon, you will set out for the guided forest walk within the forest.

Have an early morning breakfast and later transfer back to Kigali for your international flight. Lunch en-route in the city and also have a visit at Rwanda National Museum in Butare town. Proceed to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the airport to catch your flight back home.
